ALL ABOUT

Sarah Waters is a Cornwall-based artist whose work celebrates the wild beauty and quiet poetry of the Penwith peninsula and the Isles of Scilly.

Living and working in the far west of Cornwall, Sarah draws daily inspiration from windswept coastlines, hidden coves, and the ever-shifting play of light across the sea. Her paintings and prints capture not only the drama of the landscape, but also its softer, more intimate moments — the colours of a windswept hedgerow, the delicate rhythm of wildflowers, and the fleeting stillness of a tidal pool.

Through Wild Waters, Sarah shares her deep connection to place, translating her experiences of walking, sketching, and observing the natural world into expressive works of art. Each piece is both an homage to the rugged terrain she calls home and an invitation for others to bring a little of Cornwall’s magic into their own lives. Whether it’s the floral abundance of the Isles of Scilly or the elemental energy of Penwith’s cliffs, Sarah’s art captures the essence of landscapes that are at once wild, tender, and timeless.

CREATING THE WORK

Sarah’s creative journey begins outdoors, exploring the rich and varied scenery of West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. She spends time walking the cliff paths, garden trails, and hidden coves, pausing to observe the shifting light on the sea and the seasonal rhythms of the land.

With sketchbook and camera in hand, she records fleeting moments — a burst of colour in the hedgerows, the curve of a tidal pool, or the soft play of shadows across a field of wildflowers. These small, attentive acts of noticing allow her to absorb the natural world in its most intimate and expressive details.

A peaceful beach scene with clear blue water, sandy shoreline, a few people walking, a dense green tree line, and a house in the distance under a partly cloudy sky.

Back in the studio, these observations become the foundation for her paintings and prints. Sarah translates her field sketches, notes, and photographs into bold, expressive works that capture both the drama of Cornwall’s coastline and the delicate beauty of its flora.

By distilling her experiences into vibrant compositions, she creates art that reflects not just the landscapes and seascapes themselves, but also the emotions and memories they stir. Her process is one of connection and transformation — turning lived encounters with place into timeless works of creativity.
